General Information
The department was founded by Alfréd Rényi. The second head was József Mogyoródi. The present is the third: György Michaletzky.

Teaching
The staff is taking part in the training of research mathematiciens, research geologists, researchers in computer science, and mathematics, physics and cheminestry teachers, applied statisticians and assurance specialists. (detailed)

Probability Theory: combinatorial probability, limit theorems, algebraic probability, martingales, realibility theory. Mathematical Statistics: multivariate statistics, numerical, algorithmical and computational aspect of statistics, applications of statistics in biomedical studies, statistics of stochastic processes. Stochastic Analysis: stochastic differential equations, partial stochastic differential equations random fields, queuing systems, stationary processes realization theory. Information Theory: cryptography, data compressing, loglinear models, theory of information.
